Farm Girl by Francis Porretto Farm Girl by Francis Porretto Aug. 22, 2010 15517 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Francis W. Porretto was born in 1952. Things went steadily downhill from there. Fran is an engineer and fictioneer who lives on the east end of Long Island, New York. He's short, bald, homely, has bad acne and crooked teeth. His neighbors hold him personally responsible for the decline in local property values. His life is graced by one wife, two stepdaughters, three dogs, five cats, too many power tools to list, and an old ranch house furnished in Early Mesozoic style. His 12,000 volume (and growing) personal library is considered a major threat to the stability of the North American tectonic plate. Publishing industry professionals describe Fran's novels as "Unpublishable. Horrible, but unpublishable all the same." (They don't think much of his short stories, either.) He's thought of trying bribery, but isn't sure he can afford the $3.95. All Fran's fictions are free to whoever might care to read them. He's decided that, as long as he can have 1) readers, and 2) the privilege of referring to himself in the third person, he'll be happy to forgo the hope of revenue from his drivel. (He does, however, appreciate reviews and emails.) So enjoy, cost- and guilt-free, and let him know what you'd like to see more of...if anything. UPDATE 8/8/2010: A couple of readers have written to inquire about "hard copy" editions of Fran's books. As gratifying as such requests are, that would be a huge amount of effort and expense if only a handful of readers were interested in them. But if there are enough prospective purchasers -- the average price of a print-on-demand paperback is about $15.00 -- he'll look into it seriously, probably through Amazon's CreateSpace subsidiary. To express interest, just drop him a note at fwp@eternityroad.info, and mention which books you have in mind. If there are enough of you, he might even stop referring to himself in the third person! UPDATE 8/21/2010: For an external review of "Chosen One" by Martin McPhillips, author of the blockbuster thriller "Corpse In Armor," please go here: http://newpaltzjournal.com/?p=1978 For Martin's review of "On Broken Wings," please go here: http://newpaltzjournal.com/?p=1994 UPDATE 9/1/2010: In response to a quite unexpected volume of demand, Fran is currently at work on "Shadow Of A Sword," the sequel to "On Broken Wings" mentioned at the end of that novel. To those readers who've written to ask about it: It could take a while to complete, so please be patient. And thank you, most sincerely, for your enthusiasm for this saga.

A Lesson in Passion by Jennifer Connors A Lesson in Passion by Jennifer Connors Jul. 05, 2010 72875 words Read a sample
Author bio:
I started writing fiction at the age of 12 for my friends. Of course, in those days, I was the heroine, saving dashing rock stars from their ruin. Now, somewhat older, hopefully wiser, I decided to finally put down my ideas on paper and write about a heroine not unlike myself (personality wise, certainly not realistically). After finding my own soulmate (which is just another word for the only man willing to live with me), and having two beautiful children, I'm changing my stay-at-home mom status to part-time author. Which isn't to say that my days are not still filled with laundry and dishes, but I've also added writing. I have many plans for my heroine, Ginny. She will meet matchmakers, pirates, cowboys and maybe a vampire or two. If I've read it in a romance novel, you can bet, Ginny will live it in an upcoming novel. Thank you for all the support from my family and friends. Without my overly encouraging husband, none of these books would have been written. And I really appreciate my fellow neighborhood mommies. They make the best editors in the world.

After Life: Love by Patrick Lee After Life: Love by Patrick Lee May. 31, 2010 97380 words Read a sample
Author bio:
After losing both parents, I floated around for a few years until I was old enough to be on my own. I survived another 5 years traveling between cities, finding all the spots to get free food and sleep in a free bed, until I ended up in Las Vegas. In a city that never shuts down, there is no shortage of places to spend days and nights, and tourists are easy targets for making some good money. Night provided the perfect opportunity to improve my lifestyle, and when the sun roasted the desert, I hid out and banged away on a story that had haunted me for years. What started as a series of stories with nothing in common fell together with one common element...death. Once that piece of the puzzle hit me, the rest of it poured out onto the pages. A few rewrites later, and the After Life story begins. I hope you enjoy it, and let me know what you think...

She shares it with three generations of adult males (more or less, depending on circumstances), the requisite two writer’s cats of mixed heritage, and all sorts of mossy-backed folk who don’t mind the rain that makes their land so magical. She fills her historical and fantasy romance with that same sort of magic. A three time winner of the Golden Heart as well as many other awards for her books, Delle has been involved in e-publishing almost from the industry's beginning. Now it is time for me to have some fun and write fiction, specifically fiction with lots of action and character driven plots. I have always been a wannabe Navy Seal and CIA agent. So, look forward to my future stories that fit this genre. I am currently writing a story about a two person sniper team that has to kill the assistant to a drug lord in South America. Whoops, I just dropped a hint about the character conflict that dominates the story...did you catch it? ;-) Thank you again for reading my story, and if you liked it, be sure to tell your friends so they can enjoy it too!
